Jab Tak Hai Jaan – A SRK extravaganza

This I’m sure is not first of reviews and I’m not a regular critic, its just starting so bear with me.

This year Diwali release is awaited Jab Tak Hai Jaan which is coincidentally the last film by Yash Chopra. How far did it go in my expectations, lets find out.

The movie is all about Shah Rukh Khan, is the only line I can say. He is there in almost all the scenes. A struggler of London falls for a princess (Katrina Kaif) and same happens the other way round, but they can’t be together for some weird logic. That can’t be denied but imagine its the complete first half with cameos of Anupam Kher, Rishi Kapoor and Nitu Kapoor and may be some actors I couldn’t recognize. By the story, its not bad but a little stretched. I literally grabbed my chairs for an intermission.

Second half on the other hand has more performances from Shah Rukh Khan and new entry in picture Anushka Sharma. Anushka probably has made a point in her contract that she’ll have a scene of her in bikini and in and out of water. Some minor characters did a great job to adding humour but when you realize a civilian bossing over military, its quite far fetched. Anushka’s character has been made livelier and chirpier than that of Katrina’s but Katrina seemed to do a better job. A couple of medical jargon later, every one wins and movie ends on a happy note.

Overall it is stretched, half an hour shorter would’ve done magic. Music was good and so were songs, except theme music played over and over was irritating to me. Use of real places was good and no over the top sets. Set in London and Ladakh made it likable for visual appeal. There were gaps but it was more or less average movie. It is only great if you love Shah Rukh Khan, he has the looks which might flutter memories of 90’s and recent Chak De India look.

My rating: 40%
